In this guide, we’ll be covering step by step instructions on how to create a WordPress website, it’s quite simple, as you’ll learn yourself by following our instructions. Bear in mind, we did our research to make the best out of this on your voyage to creating your first WordPress website.
That means we’ll be showing you how most developers make their websites without any knowledge of HTML/CSS coding.
Create A WordPress Website Without Coding?
To create a WordPress website yourself doesn’t take long, in fact, you can do it today, in under just 30 minutes.
We’ll also help you bypass expensive hosting services, as well as unreliable website builders that are limited to features that meet your exact needs.
If you feel like you’re ready to begin, then let’s proceed.
First Step: Domain Registration and Web Hosting Service
For you to create a WordPress website(or any other), first of all, you need to find a reliable web hosting provider, as well as register a domain name that fits your needs.
- Web Hosting Service
- Domain registration
Web hosting service is needed in order to store your data, such as images, videos, content of any kind on your website, you need to have a hosting provider that is gonna store all of this data for you.
Without a hosting provider your website doesn’t go public, and so isn’t visible to anybody other then yourself. With the hosting service, your website goes public, and gets indexed in the search engine for everyone to see.
Domain name (yourwebsite.com) must have been one of the things that came to mind when you had the idea of creating a website of your own, if by any chance you haven’t thought about it till now, then now’s the time to think about it. No rush, the domain name is something you can’t simply change later on, so think about it, before you proceed.
How to register a domain name and get web hosting?
As we use this hosting, we highly recommend it as we find it reliable and easy to use, and have negotiated a discount for our site viewers. They’re among the most popular hosting providers out there, and are the right option to turn to when starting your own website, as it’s easy to configure.

2. Choose Your Web Hosting Plan
Depending on your needs, A2 Hosting offers a fair collection of packages which adapt to suit your needs.
- Shared Hosting
- Reseller Hosting
- VPS Hosting
- Dedicated Hosting
If this is your first website, we highly recommend you choose Shared Hosting Plan.
It’s also cost efficient if you have a low budget.
Shared Hosting Plan: Starts From 3.38€ Per Month
A guide illustrating how to select your plan can be seen in the picture below.
Once your click ” Get Started ” you can proceed towards registering your domain name.
3. Pick your domain name
If you haven’t thought about a domain name yet, perhaps pointing out a few things, might help you make up your mind.
Domain names should be easy to remember, pronounce and spell, so it’s easier for your visitors to remember you, and find you.
- If you want to create a WordPress website for your company, best option would be to go with
” YourCompanyName.com “.
- If you’re making a website for yourself, the best option would be to go with
” YourName.com “.
It’s important to remember, that if you’re making a website for your business it’s the best option to get a domain name with a “.com” extension.
Otherwise you can use any other that suits your needs, .com, .org or .net. Honest opinion is that it’s best to avoid the other weird extensions and stick with .com, unless you know what you’re doing, and why you’re doing it.
How to choose a domain name?
Once you have clicked “Get Started ” you’ll come across this, here you register a domain name, simply type in your domain name in the empty field, and then click ” Check ” to see if the domain name is available for registration.
That is if any other user hasn’t already registered it. In case your desired name is not possible for registration, don’t panic, try reordering your domain name, or picking another one, then check again.
If you already have a domain name, pick the other option ” I will use my existing domain and update my nameservers “. Once you click it, a new empty field will open up, and there you type in your domain name, an insert your desired extension, once you’re done, click ” Use “.
If your desired domain name is available, it will show so on your screen, and display the price required to register the domain name. Once you click ” Continue “, you’ll proceed to the configuration screen.
Configure your website
Note that if you have selected a package, using our link, you’ll be given a discount depending on the web hosting plan you have selected.
Discount is in form of a coupon that is going to be evaluated at the checkout when all the options have been configured. After proceeding with the domain name registration, you’ll come across a following information, which you need to check according to your needs.
1. Choose Billing Cycle
This pretty much is self explanatory, how long is your website going to be up is entirely up to you, take in consideration that by the end of your selected cycle, you’ll have to purchase it again to keep your website online. Paying for a long term option is going to save up money, so keep that in mind.
2. Dedicated Ip
If you would like your own dedicated ip address, select this option, if not, then it’s best to avoid selecting it.
3. Turbo Boost
Depending on how fast would you like your website to be, you need to select the option that suits your needs best, however, when you create a WordPress website, your website will be without any content or traffic, for a small business, it’s best to avoid this for the time being, till you might actually need it.
4. Priority Support
Every once in a while, you’re bound to have an issue on your website, an issue you yourself might not be able to fix on your own, and contacting the support is the only other option you have.
So whether you need your issue to be the priority among many other websites experiencing issue on a daily basis, is entirely up to. But for just starting out, this perhaps you might want to avoid, to save up some money, as you don’t have as much traffic going on your website for the time being.
5. DropMySite offsite backups
If you would like a backup of your entire website to be stored somewhere offline, in case any severe issues have appeared, you can go with this option. We don’t recommend it, as there are free plugins or extensions once you create your WordPress website that you can download, and use to make manual backups, and have all the data stored on your computer, in case you need it.
6. Server Location
Depending on your location, and the location of the audience you wish to reach, select the region that is gonna best suit your needs. Note that the server speed will be depending on this, so keep it in mind.
7. A2 Website Builder
A web page builder is a must for any website, A2 Hosting offers their web page builder, depending on how many options would you like available at your disposal, you need to check it, and move on to the next configuration.
Our preference would be to go with the free option, till you feel the need to upgrade when you grow more traffic and feel the need for a more modern look of your website. Whether you choose A2 web page builder, as your method of adding content is entirely up to you.
8. Barracuda Spam Firewall
This option is for email protection against attacks on your website that could impact your business productivity if left unnoticed. We highly recommend this option at some point or another, as when it comes to security you need to keep information stored on your website, out of the hands of any people that could try to steal it, and manipulate that information for their own uses.
9. SSl Certificates
SSL certificates are a must for any website, as the information stored online is not safe for those storing it on there. Depending on the level of protection you need, you might want to opt for a paid SSL, but for when starting out, with not much income or traffic on your website, you might want to hold off on it, till you expand.
Railgun is a web optimization technology provided by Cloudflare that greatly speeds up delivery of non-cached web pages. It’s one of the features A2 Hosting offers, like many other features, options and extensions previously mentioned, this one is also best to avoid for the time being, but it’s something you should definitely look into down the road.
Here you can check anything you might like to be installed automatically when you create a WordPress website. WordPress is user friendly, that means easy to use, and keep track of everything you got on your website. The interface is something you’ll get used to, but you will pretty soon understand the whole concept of it. We use WordPress A2 optimized, and we highly recommend it.
Once you’re done, simply continue and move on to the next step.
The following screen should appear, and here’s what you need to do.
As you can see, information regarding the following options is pretty much self explanatory. A2 offers for the first year DNS management for free as well as Email forwarding, and of course, you should take advantage of it, so check those windows.
Once done, you can proceed towards checkout, with the coupon applied to your total order. However before the checkout itself, a screen will appear where you can review your order, and check to see if you have everything you might need.
If everything appears to be in order, proceed towards checkout, if not, return to the previous configuration settings, and apply them as necessary.
Once you proceed to the next screen, you should see the following image. You are one step closer to creating a website with WordPress. Here you need to provide in your account information, in order to pay for the purchase. Select options accordingly and insert your information as necessary, once done, proceed.
The purchase is instant, and all the information regarding the purchase is sent to the email, as an invoice. For whatever reason if you decide you want to cancel the order, A2 has a 1 month money back guarantee, so you can get a refund for everything you purchased. Now you know how to create a WordPres website.
Step 2: Website Setup
With the web host and domain name purchased, your website is now online.
Now it’s time to customize your website, to do that, you’ll need to go to your website.
Among those emails, somewhere is a link to the admin login screen, follow it and enter your information.
Add A Website Theme
After you create your WordPress website, it needs a theme, you need to give a website a good look, so they can find your content more attractive. Now you may be wondering why would you really need a theme, well there’s a number of reasons why.
Well, to start of, a theme offers a designer template that provides you with easy configuration setup, that you can use to manipulate the look of your website.
And the best part about it, it requires no knowledge of coding whatsoever, unless you want to mess with the theme even further, even tho’ in most cases people find it unnecessary.
Apart from that, they offer various different features, elements, that you can use when adding your content. Of course, how much you get with the theme, depends really no how much you’re willing to spend. And then there’s an option to install a free theme, with no cost what so ever.
If you had big plans for this website, then it’s perhaps best to purchase a theme from the start, so content doesn’t get lost during the transfer to another theme.
Finding A Theme
Once you’re on the dashboard, on the left side you should see a sidebar with an interface.
There you will find “Appearance”, scrolling over it will reveal ” Themes “. Clicking on it will open up a new screen, there you will see the themes available to you.
If you click on ” Add new “, a new screen will open up, there you can select a theme you like, and install it afterwards.
However, there’s so much you get with a free theme, if you are creating a website with WordPress, you are looking for something more then the ordinary, and feel like you don’t want to look like everyone else.
Themeforest offers a large collection of themes, at low prices, you may find what you’re looking for there.
Personal advice, look for a theme that is responsive, this will make any content you put on your website also look good on any tablets or any other mobile devices.
Installing A Theme
Installing a theme is pretty easy, it can even be done in 2 clicks, starting with “Install” and then followed by ” Activate ” And you’re done, you installed and activated your theme, and now can proceed to customizing it.
Add content to your website
With the theme installed, you can now add content to your website. In the dashboard of your website, on the left sidebar you’ll see ” Pages “, there you can create new or edit existing pages on your website.
When you create a new page, you can add a title, content, images. And make use of many other features WordPress has to offer.
Note that on these pages, you can customize the layout of what content goes where. You can place it anywhere you like, insert slides, ads, and many other things.
Creating a menu
You need to add pages or posts to the menu, to allow people to navigate around your website with ease. First of all, you need to have existing pages in order to add them to the menu. So go ahead and add some.
Go to ” Appearance ” then click on ” Menus ”
Here you can add new pages to the menu, and place them in any order you see fit.
You can even add a dropdown menu when hovering specific pages on the menu, for a bigger variety of options.
It’s important to allow your visitors, or guests, to be able to navigate through the entire website. So make sure you give them everything they need to do so.
Add any pages, or topics, custom links, or categories in the menu, that you believe visitors will find most useful.
Adding and editing posts
Adding and editing pages can be done in the same way posts are made, on the left sidebar of your dashboard, you’ll find ” Posts “. You can make a lot of posts and add categories to similar posts. This will allow your visitors to reach out to your content more effectively.
If you start a new post, you’ll see that it works in the same way as pages do. It is the same editing template, so it’s easy to get around. Adding categories, linking posts to them, and further editing, can be done by hovering ” Posts ” and then clicking ” Categories ” when revealed.
For whatever reason, if you don’t want people to make comments on your website. You can disable them by default on every page.
This can be done by going to ” Settings ” then ” Discussion ” and there you’ll have access to this option, if it’s already checked, then remove it.
If however you don’t want to disable comments on the entire website. And would like to disable them on a specific post. That as well can be done, by following the next steps.
- When editing a page, go to ” Screen Options ” in the top right corner.
- Click the ” Discussion “, and the option ” Allow Comments ” should reveal itself.
- Untick ” Allow Comments “
Static Front Page Setup
By default your website homepage will be displaying recent posts, pages, categories, and god knows what else. You don’t want to look like everybody else. Here we will show you how to create a WordPress website that has a different homepage, that separate you from the rest of the internet.
On this page you can display everything you like. Preferably something that is going to get the visitors attention as soon as he lands on your homepage.
What you choose to display on that front page, is entirely up to you.
On the left sidebar in your dashboard, you’ll find ” Settings ” there you will click on ” Reading ” select the page you would like to display as your front page.
Not doing this will have WordPress by default display recent posts, comments and other stuff on your homepage.
Plugins make magic happen on your websites, but also the most common reason something goes wrong on your website and you start experiencing issues.
This is a common thing if you’re using 2 plugins of the same type, so watch out for that. If you want to replace a plugin with another one that serves the same purpose. Deactivate the old one, before activating the new one.
WordPress has a lot of plugins at your disposal and you can do just about anything with them.
Installing a plugin
When on the dashboard, navigate the left sidebar and find ” Plugins ” and then go to ” Add New “. Here you can browse through the plugins of all kinds. Or search for one by typing in a related keyword in the search bar.
We don’t recommend nor advise the use of too many plugins. As it can increase your load time, as well as even break the site apart.
At the start, we recommend downloading a few simple plugins that we recommend. They’re user friendly, reliable and free to use.
Here is a small list of few with a brief description.
